A Tamaqua man entered guilty pleas to dealing in illegal drugs in the borough and received a long prison sentence by a Schuylkill County judge.

Alden Richard Whateley, 46, of 398 E. Union St., was sentenced by Judge Jacquelyn Russell to serve 72 to 144 months in a state correctional facility and received credit for serving 158 days in the county prison from March to September.Whateley was also ordered to pay $1,150 in fines plus costs of prosecution, pay $400 to Substance Abuse Education fund, $200 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account, $641 to Bethlehem Regional Lab, $240 to Schuylkill County Drug Task Force and perform 80 hours of community service.He was cited by Sgt. Richard Weaver, Tamaqua police, working with the county drug task force.Woman pleadsAlso entering a guilty plea was a woman from Chambersburg and she was sentenced by President Judge William E. Baldwin as follows:On a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs, Rita Marie Baker, 28, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in the county prison with the sentence to commence when she completes a current sentence. On a charge of possession a controlled substance she must serve an additional 12 months on probation. She also must pay a fine of $1,000, pay $100 to the Substance Abuse Education fund, $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center and $113 to Bethlehem Regional Lab. On a charge of failing to have a driver's license was fined $200 plus costs. Baker was cited by Patrolman Michael Stank, Pottsville police, on Aug. 26, 2009.
