Dr. Dante Picciano of West Penn Township, Schuylkill County, announced that he is running as an independent candidate for state representative in the 124th legislative district in Schuylkill and Berks counties.
Picciano is a retired patent attorney who could be enjoying his retirement, but stated he cannot sit by and watch career politicians drive our state into bankruptcy.
Dr. Picciano believes that we must: cut government spending now, eliminate property taxes on primary residences, repair the broken Pennsylvania public pension system, stop the dumping of toxic wastes in our communities, enact term limits for state legislators, reduce benefits to state legislators, and stop legislators from using taxpayers money to run for re-election.
Campaign donations are not being solicited and will not be accepted for this election.
Picciano is a fiscal conservative who wants to cut government spending now.
Dr. Picciano states, "We cannot continue to provide hundreds of millions of dollars of corporate welfare to private corporations whose owners just happen to be big campaign contributors to the career politicians.
"We cannot allow these career politicians to continue to spend hundreds of millions on stadiums for private sports franchises for the benefit of billionaire owners.
"We cannot continue to spend millions of dollars to allow Hollywood film companies to make movies in Pennsylvania.
"We must do something about the impending crisis with the Pennsylvania public pension system. The career politicians aren't doing anything. Unless spending is cut now, your taxes will have to be increased dramatically to pay for these public pensions.
"If you are tired of the wasteful spending and the ever-increasing taxes and you want someone to fight for you in Harrisburg, then I would greatly appreciate your vote on November 2nd."
Picciano has selected John Schickram as his campaign manager. Picciano needed the signatures of 300 registered voters to get his name on the ballot. Schickram spearheaded the campaign and secured over 1,000 signatures to ensure Picciano's place on the ballot.
Picciano stated, "Schickram has great experience running against the political establishment and I value his assistance. This election is not about being Republican or being Democrat. It is about being fiscally conservative. I will not accept any campaign donations. In this way, I will not be beholden to any special interest groups or political action committees."
