People and families are hurting

Dear Editor:

Jobs are at a minimum these days. You look through the "want ads" in the paper and there just isn't a lot there. I just heard that someone from Washington said the recession ended in June of 2009. I would like to know if this person or group lives in reality.People and families across the area are hurting. The recession isn't over now and it certainly wasn't over in 2009. But, unlike many areas and states, we have an economic boom that could happen in our own local area. I have done a lot of research on the Marcellus Shale that lies beneath the surface across many parts of Pennsylvania. I see the jobs and economic boost that could happen if we harness this energy in the right way. Doing it the "right way" is key. If we harm our beautiful countryside, it will all be for nothing.I really hope that our politicians see the light on the issues surrounding Marcellus Shale. The fact that we tax everything into oblivion in Pennsylvania makes me wonder if we will do the same to the people and companies working in this new industry and creating jobs. If a recession is to eventually end, we need to embrace the job creators, give them the tools they need and don't tax them out. Let's do it all the right way and our area will be better for it.Thanks for listening,Thomas CahillTunkhannock
