The Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met Oct. 20 at the home of Donna Gerber. The meeting included a Secret Sister Halloween party, hosted by Lori Schmerfeld. The program included the history of Halloween and numerous games. Members then exchanged Halloween treats.

The Preceptor Ritual for Diane Pruett, as well as a Pledge Ritual for Pat Kibbler, will be held Nov. 3. Members of all Tamaqua sorority chapters are welcome to attend. The event will be held at Basile's Restaurant, Hometown. Cocktails will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Patti Burke is in charge of reservations and entrée choices.

Trick or treat

The following is a list of local community trick or treat nights submitted to the TIMES NEWS Tamaqua office:

Rush Township: Oct. 31, 6-9 p.m.; Tamaqua Borough: Oct. 31, 6-8 p.m.; Schuylkill Township: Oct. 31, 6-8 p.m.; Walker Township Safe Trick or Treat, Oct. 30, New England Fire Company, 6-8 p.m.

Anyone interested in treating the ghouls and goblins should leave on their outside/porch lights.

First Steps

First Steps, a support group for mothers, will have its monthly meeting from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, in the social room at Primitive Methodist Church, 55 Hunter St., Tamaqua.

Participants will share a home-cooked meal and make Christmas ornaments.

The sessions are free and open to the public. Child care for all ages will be provided free of charge. New members and volunteers are welcome.

Calvary UM

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. The service will incude a celebration of Confirmation. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m. Also on Sunday, an evening of praise, worship and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday prayer and praise services are held at 7 p.m.

Rally Day will be held Nov. 7, featuring "Heaven Bound Clown Around" and the Brothers in Grace Gospel Quartet.
