Palmerton golfer Ben Andrews made it apparent that he was a bit disappointed in his performance on the first day of the 2010 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Golf Championships.

After watching Andrews walk off the course of the par-71 Heritage Hills Golf Course in York on Monday afternoon, Bomber head coach Dave Lavin, like any other coach would, chose to remain optimistic about the whole matter heading into tomorrow's final round of championship golf."He's a little disappointed with the way he played, but I'm more than happy with him," Lavin said. "He had one double bogey, but he was composed the whole round. He didn't let any of his bogeys get to him as he came back and responded well to all the adversity he faced."It was a tough day, a tough course. The greens were extremely quick. But he responded well and played solid golf today. He wasn't outstanding, but was very solid, which is good."The Bomber junior started the event off by shooting a two-over par on the first nine holes, but lost it a little on the back nine tapering off a bit to finish four-over par to end up with a six-over par score of 77 on the day.Andrews finished off 11 holes shooting an even par score, one birdie (on Hole No. 6), and carded five bogeys and one double bogey.Andrews hoping to put that score, which sits him tied with four others for 22nd place, behind him now and focus on a whole better day of golf in the second round.J.D. Dornes of Manheim Township was the leader firing a one-under par round of 70."I'm a little disappointed in my performance," said Andrews, who leads all District 11 golfers at the event. Parkland's Andrew Feldman is one stroke behind Andrews tied for 27th. "I know it wasn't too tough off a course though. You just had to hit close to the pin. I just wasn't really hitting my iron that great."But, I'm definitely confident (about Day Two). I know I left a lot of shots out there and I still was able to shoot a 77. So, I know I can post a low number."While the Bombers' first year coach is also enjoying his first trip to the state championships, Lavin stated Andrews is showing signs that he was ready to take on a whole new attitude in Tuesday's round in York."He's confident," Lavin said. "At first, I think he was a little disappointed, especially since he was only two-over through nine and then he was a little disappointed to go four-over on the back nine."But, once he saw how tough the course was he was playing, and how it effected everyone else playing, he looked at it as a good score. He's definitely still within range of accomplishing his goal and I think he's excited to go out and play tomorrow."
