Tamaqua couple wed 61 years

Dorothy and Edward Rummel of Tamaqua will celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary on Thursday. They were married on Oct. 21, 1949.

The Rummels have four children: two sons, Donald and Terry; and two daughters, Susan and Sandy.They also have eight grandchildren: Amanda Constinbader, Brad Sanders, Brian Rummel, Kathy Rummel, Elizabeth Hein, Melissa Lindenmuth, Mark McDonald and Michael Rummel.They have six great-grandchildren: Natale Hein, Machenna Hein, Kira Lindenmuth, Kiara McDonald, Jace Rummel and Frank Constinbader.Mrs. Rummel is a native of Barnesville. She worked for five years at the old Sprite Manufacturing Company in Tamaqua.Mr. Rummel worked for 46 years in the newspaper trade, at the Tamaqua Evening Courier, the Mahanoy City Record American, and at the Reading Eagle and Reading Times newspapers.He also served in World War II with the 67th Tank Battalion, 2nd Armored Division, and the S-1 Division of the 4th Army Headquarters, General Wainwright, the commanding officer, until he was discharged from the regular Army when his enlistment was up.
