The Schuylkill County Tax Assessment Appeals Board completed more than one month of hearings on appeals from assessments on real estate properties. In its final session it granted some exemptions, reductions and also made no changes.
Lehigh Carbon Communities College Foundation, Allentown, requested and was granted exemption on the former Tamaqua Area High School Building at 90 High Street, as the college foundation has renovated the building and now uses it as an education center. The property was conveyed to the college by Tamaqua Area School Board in 1992. The assessment office has the property's market value listed at $1,721,600 and assessed at $860,800.
Acces Services Inc., Fort Washington, owners of property at 521 Schuylkill Avenue, Tamaqua, was granted an exemption because the property is owned and operated by a charitable organization as part of charitable operations to provide services to persons who are cognitive, emotional and have behavioral disabilities. The assessment office has the market value of the property at $137,460 and assessment at $68,730l.
Tamaqua Properties, LLC, 29 Greenhouse Lane, New Ringgold, owner of a property on north side of Rowe Street, Tamaqua, the market value was reduced from $59,610 to $31,200 and assessment lowered from $29,805 to $15,600, a reduction of $14,205 in assessment; on the property at 242 Spruce St., Tamaqua, the market value was reduced from $27,868 to $18,720 and assessment from $13,930 to $9,360, a reduction of $4,570 in assessment.
JM Investment Company, LLC, 29 Greenhouse Lane, New Ringgold, owner of property at 423 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, market value reduced from $46,630 to $16,640 and assessment from $25,315 to $8,320, a reduction of $14,995 in assessment.
William Walsh, 11 Bernhard Road, Barnesville, owner of property at 26 W. Center St., Mahanoy City, had the market value reduced from $46,430 to $14,560 and assessment from $23,215 to $7,280, a reduction of $15,935 in assesment because the property is vacant and needs work.
Bet Lehigh Real Estate, LLC, Box 150, Tamaqua, owner of coal land tracts in Tamaqua and Coaldale off SR209 requested reductions because of the removal of minerals from the ground for the last number of years. The board ruled no changes. One tract has a market value of $4,536,800 and is assessed at $2,268,400 and the other the market value is $2,127,100 and assessed at $1,063,550.
Robert and Joanne Wagner, owners of property at 320 W. Pine St., Mahanoy City, were denied a reduction as the board ruled no change. The property's market value as recorded is $37,260 and assessed at $18,630.
Meride Properties, Wilkes Barre, owner of several tracts in the Humboldt Industrial Park - West, East Union Township, was seeking reductions but the board ruled no change. The property at 60 Green Mountain Road, Humboldt Park, consisting of 61.42 acres the market value remains at $21,175,550 and assessment at $10,587,775; the property at 61 Green Mountain Road, consisting of 50.19 acres, the market value remains at $26,950 and assessment at $13,475 and the tract containing 50.96 acres the market value remains at $17,510,100 and assesssemt at $8,755,050. The owners claimed the assessments were to high.
Thomas and Virginia Gatley, Doylestown, owners of a property at 87 Mohican, Eagle Rock Resorts, East Union Township, sought a reduction but the board ruled no change. The property's market value is listed at $222,610 and assessment at $111,305. They cited for their claim the Uniformed Clause of the Pennsylvania Constitution claiming neighboring properties had lower assessments.
