A construction project in the Pleasant Row section of Tamaqua has been rescheduled for next week.

According to Tamaqua Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt, reconstruction of the retaining wall on North Railroad Street (Pleasant Row), along Route 309, was scheduled to begin on Wednesday. This work has been postponed until Monday, Oct. 18.Pleasant Row and one block of West Elm Street between Washington and North Railroad streets will be closed to traffic every day from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for excavation and replacement of the retaining wall.Radocha Excavating of Coaldale and the borough workforce will be rebuilding approximately 400 feet of the wall starting at Elm Street. The existing rock wall and metal railing will be removed and replaced with concrete retaining wall blocks and a metal guide rail.Construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting.During these times the streets will be closed to traffic and will be reopened at approximately 3:30 p.m. each day.The wall replacement project will take 2-3 weeks to complete, stated Steigerwalt. This schedule is subject to change, depending on weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.Drivers and pedestrians should avoid this area during construction.
