Three ambulances were used to transport injured people Monday night following an accident in the northbound lanes of Route 209, where it intersects with Cherry Hill Road in Franklin Township. The accident happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. A black 2007 Avalanche pick up truck with Florida plates, driven by a woman, was struck by a blue Kia Sportage with Pennsylvania plates, driven by a man. Both vehicles were traveling north. It appeared that the Avalanche driver was attempting to make a U-turn when the vehicle was struck by the Kia. Both vehicles had moderate to severe damage. The roadway was closed for nearly an hour. Four ambulances were on scene, but only three were used to transport patients. Franklin Township police officer R. Hontz said that he would not release information to the press until Tuesday evening. Franklin Township Volunteer fire fighters and fire police assisted police at the scene. Ambulances on scene were from Mahoning Valley, Lehighton and Northern Valley.
