N'western's Miller wins LV Amateur Junior Division

Northwestern High School freshman Cole Miller recently won the Junior Division of the Lehigh Valley Amateur Golf Tournament.

Miller won the title on Sunday at Green Pond Country Club by beating two members of the Parkland High School team. He edged No. 1 seed Eric Pratt in a 19-hole semifinal and then downed Joey Grimm 3 and 1 for the title.Miller was one of 67 players that entered qualifying on August 21 for 16 spots in the junior amateur field. It's just the second year the tournament offered junior amateur bracket for high school players and a junior high bracket for middle school-age players.It was the first year Miller attempted to qualify and he earned the No. 5 seed, shooting a 78, the lowest score that day among 14-15 year olds.He opened match play with two decisive wins on Saturday, beating Pat Callahan 6 and 5 and then taking out Collin Hagenbuch 4 and 3.
