A number of volunteers chose to spend their Thanksgiving Day preparing, serving, and delivering meals to hundreds of shut-ins, senior citizens, disabled persons, or just anyone who didn't want to spend the holiday alone. Over 375 guests and residents enjoyed the pleasure of a free dinner yesterday, courtesy of the Tamaqua Salvation Army Corps.

Over 250 meals were prepared and served at the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center and approximately 125 local deliveries were made.For the second year, volunteers from Christ Evangelical Free Church (CEFC) in Lehighton stepped up to help the Tamaqua Salvation Army fill food boxes for the holiday season, as well as serve and deliver free dinners Thursday.Tamaqua Salvation Army Major Sharon Whispell appreciated the CEFC as well as the other volunteers who brought brought joy to others for the holiday."A number of organizations and churches showed up on Thanksgiving Day to help our Salvation Army Corps members sort food donations as well as serve and deliver all the meals," Whispell said. "We couldn't do all that we do without the caring and dedicated Salvation Army and community volunteers that show up every year to help our Corps serve our grateful community."
