Tamaqua Salvation Army distributes food

Staff and volunteers at the Tamaqua Salvation Army distributed a turkey and box of food to more than 250 families all day Monday.

Volunteers spent a lot of time sorting, making boxes, stacking, picking up donations, and organizing in preparation for the annual Thanksgiving food assistance distribution.Tamaqua Salvation Army Major Sharon Whispell also stressed her continued appreciation to all the people and organizations that have and continue to provide needed donations.Those receiving the food were extremely grateful.The Tamaqua Salvation Army will also be having its yearly free Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army Center, 105 West Broad St.No reservation is needed. Everyone is encouraged to come.Deliveries are also available for local senior citizens or disabled individuals. Stop by or call the Salvation Army at (570) 668-0410 to arrange free Thanksgiving Dinner delivery.Major Whispell also stressed that volunteer bell ringers are desperately needed to stand at local businesses for the Christmas season.
