An application seeking funds from the county's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program was hand delivered by Stephen W. Simchak, chairman of Rush Township Board of Supervisors, to the Schuylkill County Commissioners at their work session held Wednesday at the courthouse in Pottsville.

Simchak told the commissioners, "I want to present to the commissioners Rush Township's application for Community Development Block Grant funding for 2011. It is our desire to be considered for funds in the amount of $25,000 to help improve the sanitary sewer system in the village of Hometown. A video inspection study is being completed on the Hometown Sanitary Sewer System to identify the problem areas in dire need of repair."About 800 customers are connectred to the aging sewer system in Hometown. Over the years, heavy rains have caused sewage to back up and flood basements causing great damage for our homeowners. This is especially true in the vicinity of the Rush Elementary School and surrounding neighborhood. Obtaining these funds would be a positive benefits for our township residents."Commissioner Frank Staudemier promised the commssioners would give it full consideration and his remarks were concurred by Chairperson Mantura Gallagher, who added she was impressed with the brochure presented giving an outline of township programs, information on contacting township police and on trash collections. It also contains a municipal directory.At a future meeting the commissioners will award grants and it depends on the amount of grant money the county receives from the state.
