The education room at Healthworks, Blue Mountain Health System's health and fitness center, located in the Carbon Plaza Mall, was transformed into a walk-in flu clinic Wednesday evening for area residents who wanted to get their annual flu shot. The hall of the mall was packed with children and adults as the clinic began at 4:30 p.m. A staff of nurses; as well as Healthworks employees, were on hand to register, direct and give the shots, which were free to residents age 4 and older. A total of 350 shots, which protect against numerous strains of the flu virus, were available. Jessica Merkel of Palmerton, seated, was one of many county residents to receive her free flu shot from Rosanne Reed, RN, an emergency room nurse at Blue Mountain Health System. This is the first time Blue Mountain Health System held a flu shot clinic at Healthworks.
