The Tamaqua Area School District will present a parent information session on Operation Safe Surf tonight from 6:30-8 p.m. at the district's auditorium.
The program, developed by Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett, concerns Internet safety and is designed not only to educate students and schools about safe use of the web but also to show parents how they can help their children be safe online.
Operation Safe Surf provides parents with resources and tools to use as they addresss these issues with their children.
The AG's office has created the presentation based on an informative DVD just for adults to help them better
understand the seriousness of the issue and the importance of Internet safety. The DVD features victim stories and gives a portrait of an online predator, as well as information as to how parents can help protect students online.
Due to the sensitive nature of the material in the presentation, no students will be permitted into the session, which is open to parents in grades K-12 in the school district.
