More than 300 visitors dared to pass through the Boy Scout Troop 755's 20th Annual Haunted Clamtown Schoolhouse held over the past two weekends at the old Clamtown Schoolhouse located on route 443 in Clamtown. Monsters, ghouls, fog, light effects, terrifying sounds, hidden passageways, animatronics, and rooms depicting horrifying scenes were just a few reasons to visit the haunted house.

The scouts hold their haunted house annually to raise funds for their Hawk Mountain Boy Scout Camp trip held every year. Work on their haunted house started the last weekend in August. One volunteers stated, "We all put many hours of hard work into this to make it the best haunted house around!"The Clamtown schoolhouse, used primarily for scout activities, has always been known to have a troop in it. Initially the schoolhouse was used for girl scouts. The past Boy Scout Troop 154 started having their meetings in the old schoolhouse in the 1950's. It was several years after that Troop 154 dissolved and that Troop 755 was eventually established in 1966. The schoolhouse has been owned by the West Penn Youth Center Corporation (WPYCC) since 1966. Erik Resch is the charter representative for the WPYCC.Presently, the scouts have approximately 18 active scouts with 8 leaders consisting of Committee Chairperson Chrystal Hodo; Scoutmaster Bubby Tyson, Finance Valerie Reinhardt, Secretary Margie Ahner, Assistant Scoutmasters Cathie Miller, Daniel Miller, Daniel Tyson and Erik Resch, and advancements Daniel Tyson.The scouts offer a variety of events to keep their scouts occupied, to include their annual Clamtown Haunted House fundraiser, camping trip (rafting, hiking, bicycling, historic walks), bowling nights, day hikes, biking excursions, amusement parks, winter camping, laser tag and other activities.Assistant Scoutmaster Cathie Miller stated, "Guests came as far away as Bethlehem, Reading, and Hazleton to go through the Haunted House. We couldn't hold this fun event every year without the dedicated support of all the scouts, families, volunteers, and community." Visitors were also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation, to be donated to the St Peter's food pantry, to receive a discount off their admission price.In addition to their haunted house, the Scouts take part in various community projects, such as participating in road clean-up each spring, helping area churches with different service projects, participating in local parades for memorial day, helping collect food for the local Salvation Army, cleaning up around the recycling bins at the township building, and helping clean the West Penn Park in the spring.New boy scouts, ages 11 to 18, are encouraged to contact Scoutmaster Marlin Tyson at (570) 386-5997 or via their website at
