Lehighton Area Middle School will hold a concert and art exhibition on Wednesday, May 26.

The 16th annual Spring Art Exhibition will begin at 6 p.m. while Spring Choral Concert will begin at 7 p.m.Ms. Phillips and Mrs. Micheletti will exhibit student art work from their fifth through eighth grade art classes. Projects that were created this year include 3-D construction, printing, acrylic, tempera and watercolor paintings, drawings and mixed media works.The art exhibition will be a juried Art Display with awards for the categories of drawing, painting, 3-D works, printmaking, mixed media, and paper craft for each grade level.The middle school show choir, Music Express Jr., will perform first. Louis Prima's "Jump, Jive an' Wail" will be their first selection. Next, Music Express Jr. will perform the Irving Berlin classic, "Puttin' On The Ritz." This group will conclude their portion of the program with an original by Mac Huff entitled, "Big City Swing."The Treble Chorale, consisting of fifth and sixth graders, is under the direction of Thomas Weidner. They will begin their portion of the program with a selection inspired by Renaissance England entitled, "Sing of the Spring." Next, the chorale will perform a selection from the smash musical "Hairspray" entitled. "The Nicest Kids in Town."For the third piece, the choral will perform a moving original entitled, "We Are The Music." "Yankee Doodle Song" is sure to remind everyone of a Memorial Day parade. The Treble Chorale will conclude with "Everyone's Favorite Melody!"The Choraliers, consisting of the seventh and eighth graders, is a mixed choir under the direction of Laura Welkey. One of their selections, "Take Me To The River," features eighth grader, Michael Perkins."Sippin' Cider With Eliza," a folk song arranged by Dave and Jean Perry, will be another of their selections. "Imagine," a timeless classic composed by the late John Lennon, will feature the talents of the eighth grader Tanner Leitzel. "The Pink Panther" and the "12th Street Rag" are sure to delight the jazz fans in attendance."In Flanders Fields," based off a poem by Dr. John McCrae, is a reflective piece about those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Ellen Perkins will sing a solo in "In Flanders Fields" while Holly Hinkle will provide piano accompaniment. The Choraliers will conclude their portion of the program with a stirring patriotic selection entitled, "Of thee I Sing."The Lehighton AMVETS Post 106 will also present awards to the winners of a poster and essay contest that they annually sponsor. Donations will be accepted and everyone is encouraged to attend this event.
