Many have labeled it as the corrective skin care of today.
Clients who have received LED Light Therapy at True Spa Services in Palmerton would likely vouch for that.
The procedure continues to be offered at the all natural and organic spa and skin care center, located at 234 Delaware Avenue.
Owner Tricia Schaefer said the form of therapy can be an alternative to Botox, as well as to treat aging skin.
"It's different from laser technology, because it's light therapy, safer and more affordable," Schaefer said. "What I've seen after treatment is a smoother complexion, more unified tone, and tightness of skin."
A skin treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of infrared energy produced by Light Emitting Diodes, Power Light LED Light Therapy System has proven to be a big hit with customers, Schaefer said.
"We have a lot of parents who come in with their children with acne, and this is an alternative to control acne," she said. "We're doing very well with it, and the people are pleased with the results."
On average, Schaefer said the procedure takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes.
"It varies from person to person," she said. "Some people see more of a response in a shorter amount of time."
However, she cautioned the treatment isn't a once-and-done procedure, and recommended that clients get two treatments a week for three weeks.
"I want to share what I know with people," she said. "There are affordable ways to manage their skin, but in healthier ways."
Schaefer said the LEDs enhance cellular metabolism, accelerate the repair and replenishment of damaged skin cells, and gently lift and firm the skin.
Light Therapy is safe, non-invasive and painless, and has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, she said.
Schaefer said LEDS create fresh, younger looking complexion; fill in lines and wrinkles; reduce edema and erythema, treat acne, counteract UV damage, as in wrinkles; moisturize dry skin; and can be used on all skin types.
In addition, she said acne can be treated with LEDs to target all the conditions associated with acne, such as infection, inflammation, and wounding.
Blue light is an antibacterial that sits on the surface and kills bacteria near the surface, while red/near infrared light penetrates deep to reduce the inflammation associated with the infection, especially with cystic acne.
Researchers in Germany see such treatment as a potential alternative to Botox and cosmetic surgery for easing facial wrinkles, Schaefer said.
Also, Schaefer said NASA's Scientists use LEDs to heal wounds in space and on earth; speed up recovery of musculoskeletal injuries in Navy Seals; treat hard-to-heal sores on cancer patients and diabetics; and are chosen over LASERS due to safety and cost.
