Nesquehoning VFW Ladies Auxiliary holds May meeting

The monthly meeting of the Nesquehoning VFW Ladies Auxiliary was held on May 11 at the post home, with President Cathy Sommers presiding.

Among the items discussed at the meeting was the annual Loyalty Day Program, which was held on May 1.A Miller bloodmobile collection was held at the post on April 21, with 19 units successfully collected. The next visit is June 16.The annual District VOD banquet was held on May 8.Auxiliary members were at Redner's May 7-8 promoting the Buddy Poppy Program and selling patriotic bows.The 2010 Buddy Poppy Queen is Taylor Hirochek. Members of her Court are: Gabriella Greek, Olivia Dacey, Emma Kattner, Alexis Grammes, Alyssa Kattner, Christina Dacey and Julia Romankow. Lori Dacey will again decorate a float for the girls for the Memorial Day Parade.The 61st Anniversary Dinner of the Auxiliary was held at Macaluso's on Thursday, April 22.The annual Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 31. The parade will form up at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center at 8 a.m. and pull out promptly at 8:30 a.m. The main services will be held in front of the post home following the parade. Members will be needed to help with refreshments following the services.The District 20 Convention will be held Sunday, May 16, at 2 p.m., hosted by Bangor Post and Auxiliary.Cathy Sommers, Cheri Santore and William Moskerintz represented the auxiliary and post at the annual PV JROTC Awards Ceremony on May 12.A donation was made to the Department Flag Fund. The Department Convention will be held in Gettysburg June 16-19. Delegates are President Cathy Sommers, Mary Arieta, Tillie Lakata and Maureen Hirochek. Alternates are: Ellen Driesbach, Carol Malatak and Anne Paulakovich. District 20 Convention Delegates are: Ellen Driesbach, Cathy Sommers, Maureen Hirochek, Tillie Lakata, Mary Arieta and Marie Sniscak. Alternates are: Anne Paulakovich, Brenda Smellowsky, Audrey Gogal, Mandy Breiner, Missy Hascher and Carol Malatak.Joint Installation of Officers will be held on Friday, May 28, beginning at 7 p.m. All officers are to be present at 6:30 p.m. for pictures. Auxiliary members are requested to bring a dessert item for the social following the installation ceremony.The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the post home.Plans for the annual summer picnic will be made at the June meeting.
