Turnpike travelers can expect delays

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling southbound on the Northeastern Extension to be prepared for slow moving or stopped traffic when approaching the Mahoning Valley (Exit #74) Interchange next Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Additionally, motorists should anticipate delays when entering the Mahoning Valley Toll Plaza from Route 209 in Carbon County. On Monday and Tuesday, between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and Thursday, between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., State Police and Turnpike personnel will the assist with the delivery of eight 150' concrete beams to the construction area south of the Interchange.Due to the size and length of these "superload" beams entering at the Mahoning Valley Interchange to travel southbound on the Northeastern Extension, motorists may experience minor delays while the State Police escort the concrete beams being transported to the construction area located 0.2 miles south of the Interchange.Motorists traveling northbound and southbound should stay alert for slow moving or stopped traffic within the project work zone located between the Lehigh Tunnel and Mahoning Valley Interchange from now until the end of June. The contractor's schedule is dependent on the weather and subject to change. For construction updates and travel advisory information, visit the project website at
