Lehighton defends title

With all the games complete and the totals tallied, the Lehighton seniors, defending champions, remain the top dogs.

On Wednesday, seniors from Lehighton, Jim Thorpe, Panther Valley, Palmerton and Weatherly competed in the final day of competition of the 2010 Carbon County Senior Games.The overall standings at the end of the games were Lehighton in first with a score of 599, Jim Thorpe in second with 581, Panther Valley in third with a score of 204, Palmerton in fourth with 66 points and Weatherly with 26 points.The games will conclude today at 4 p.m., with a banquet at Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall.The results for yesterday's event, which included Bingo, Pinochle, Rummy, the Polka, Slow Dancing and the Jitterbug are:Bingo: Elaine Stockmal of Panther Valley, gold; Ed Leininger of Weatherly, silver; and Diann Stephens of Jim Thorpe, bronze.Pinochle: Linda Swartz of Palmerton, gold; Joe Carnish of Panther Valley, silver; and Helen Neifert of Panther Valley, bronze.Rummy: Rod Snyder of Lehighton, gold; Nancy Straiter of Lehighton, silver; and Shirley Snyder of Lehighton, bronze.Polka: Joe and Barb Mustacchio of Lehighton, gold; Linda Botcher and Linda Daubenspeck of Lehighton, silver; and Mary and John Thompson of Jim Thorpe, bronze.Slow Dance: Don and Helen Neifert of Panther Valley, gold; Howard and June Farber of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Joe and Barb Mustacchio of Lehighton, bronze.Jitterbug: John and Connie Di John of Jim Thorpe, gold; Howard and June Farber of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Linda Bottcher and Linda Daubenspeck of Lehighton, bronze.
