Tamaqua teen jailed; facing multiple charges

A Tamaqua teen was jailed on Monday evening and is facing multiple criminal and motor vehicle code charges following two separate incidents.

State police at Frackville said Seth George Mellor, 18, is facing charges of driving under the influence (DUI), theft of services, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, DUI by a minor, fleeing or attempting to elude police, underage drinking, reckless driving, accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property and a restraint systems violation.Troopers said Mellon was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Pottsville in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.Troopers gave the following account of the incidents that led to Mellor's arrest.About 5:29 p.m. on Monday troopers were dispatched to Wildcat Road in Walker Township to the area around the state game lands. Troopers were responding to a report of a vehicle stuck on the berm. Troopers found a 1996 Saturn SL and Mellor as the operator.Mellor was found to be under the influence and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville, for a blood test. He was then released from custody and the vehicle was impounded at the Hope Auto property along SR209 in the township, just outside Tamaqua.About 9 p.m. Mellor went to the Hope property and removed the Saturn by driving through a fence. The fence struck a parked Chevrolet Cobalt owned by Hope's Towing.Once outside the fence Mellor drove back to Wildcat Road area and the game lands where he struck a fence in front of 145 Grouse Ridge Road and then fled the scene.Mellor was stopped by West Penn Township police on Wildcat Road, north of SR443, and taken into custody. Troopers said Mellor was again under the influence of alcohol and was transported to the Frackville barracks for a breath test. The breath test revealed a .21BAC, which is over 10 times the legal limit of a person under 21, which is .02 percent.
