Lehighton graduate Ashley Jennings recently received some prestigous awards at the Cedar Crest College's athletic banquet.
Jennings, who was a freshman on the Falcons' field hockey team, was named the team's Most Valuable Player and the college's Rookie of the Year.
A two-time First Team all-state selection in high school, Jennings played in all 17 games this past fall for Cedar Crest. The defender scored three goals and added four assists. More importantly, she anchored a defense that saw its goals against average drop from 7.79 per game two years to 2.14 this past season.
"I cannot put into words how much she meant to our program," said Cedar Crest head field hockey coach Marci Lippert. "It's not often a Division III school like ours gets a recruit who was an all-stater. She's such a great player and a great person and is respected by all the girls."
Jennings is a nursing major who was also named to the All-CSAC (Colonial States Athletic Conference) Academic Team with a GPA of 3.77. She was also one of two Cedar Crest players named First Team All-CSAC.
The Falcons posted a 5-12 record this past season and return 19 players to next year's squad.
