Lehighton Area School Board on Monday failed to hire Tom McCarroll as the new head football coach for the 2010-11 school year when the motion to hire him did not reach a majority of the school board members.

Five school board members would have to vote for the motion, but it only received four votes. Voting to hire McCarroll were Tina Dowd, Duane Eidem, Andrew Yenser and David Krause. Hal Resh abstained. Voting against the hire were William Hill Jr., Evelyn Semanoff and Larry Stern. Absent was Wayne Wentz.

David Krause, board president, said that McCarroll was the number two applicant when he presented the motion. The top applicant was not named, but the TIMES NEWS has learned that current coach George Ebbert has re-applied for the job and was the initial recommendation.

When contacted today, Lehighton Athletic Director Shawn Hindy said he couldn't comment on what happened at the meeting or when a coach would be named.
