Lehighton motorist charged following Lansford accident

Jarred West, 19, 365 Valley View Road, Lehighton faces charges from an incident which took place on June 23 at Springgarden and Abbott streets, Lansford, at 6:48 p.m. Charges were filed by Officer Joshua Tom. West is charged with; driving under the influence, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, careless driving, and stop sign violations.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Tom had received a call for a motor vehicle crash at East Abbott and Springgarden streets. Once there, he was approached by several witnesses who stated that the operator of the green Chrysler had been "burning out" up and down the roadway and speeding.One witness said she yelled at the driver to slow down, and "at this time the operator of the green Chrysler went speeding toward Springgarden Street and failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the accident with the other vehicle."West was identified as the driver of the green Chrysler. Tom spoke with West and saw that his eyes were glassy and his speech slurred and that he was having a difficult time maintaining normal balance. West denied drinking but admitted to smoking marijuana.West also took accountability for the accident, saying his "gas pedal got stuck to a glass bottle."West admitted to "seeing the other vehicle coming up on the highway, but decided to punch on the gas in hopes of making it through the intersection and missing this vehicle."West was taken to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, for a blood-alcohol test.
