The Hanger held its grand opening in the Carbon Plaza on Route 443 in Mahoning Township the weekend of June 18-19.

The apparel business was formerly located in Tamaqua's Flat Iron building, where it was known as The Company Store, and it retains its local ownership at its new site.

The Hanger is in the Plaza location formerly inhabited by the Deb Shop for many years, and it features approximately 3,500 square feet of retail space, which has been completely refurbished.

"It has been totally renovated," said Lisa Bittenbender, the store's manager.

Columbia Sportswear and footwear and Vera Bradley handbags and stationery are among the featured items at The Hanger. Columbia has a reputation for the endurance and long-lasting wear of its products.

The store also carries Dickies brand clothing and school uniforms, designer sunglasses, jewelry and other accessories, Klutz Books for children, Melissa and Doug Children's Toys and Puzzles, Caren original hand and body lotions and Fight Like a Girl Cancer Awareness clothing.

Bittenbender noted The Hanger will also have Emu boots for its fall line, which will arrive in August.

The Hanger's hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The store is closed on Sundays. The store's phone number is (570) 386-4004.
