Walmart funding signal controllers

Sandra Gaumer, secretary for Franklin Township, has supplied additional information on a story about the bridge cameras on the Thomas McCall Bridge that was featured in Tuesday's edition of The TIMES NEWS.

The controller cameras were installed to look down on traffic on either end of the bridge to detect backups and then regulates the lights to turn green when traffic backups occur of more than quarter length of the bridge.Gaumer said that on April 27, 2009, Wal-Mart and Franklin Township entered into an agreement that Wal-Mart would pay the costs to install the traffic signal controllers on the bridge and pay for maintenance for 18 months.The township will be responsible for maintenance of the cameras after the initial 18-month period ends.
