President Karen Bandzi said it is the seventh year the Ladies Auxiliary to R. W. Fritzinger VFW Post 7215 has decorated the Veterans Memorial in Walnutport.

Post Commander Bruce Jones said the guns - an antiaircraft weapon and a mortar - were cleaned and painted for the holiday.The Memorial is "Dedicated to the noble deeds of Walnutport's men and women who served their country in World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.Additional plaques are to be added honoring those who served in Grenada, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, Afghanistan and Eastern Europe, said Jones.Memorial markers held flags for each war and Gold Star Mothers. There were wreaths and flags at the memorial, and on the trees behind the memorial were leis and bows in red, white and blue. Two of the wreaths were red, white and blue, but the third one was in pastel colors of yellow and lavender.Both the POW-MIA and United States flags were replaced with new ones.In the opening prayer Sue Bortz asked God to remember the awesome cost of our freedoms. "We seek consolation for those recently bereaved."Daniel Farkas prayed that veterans should be protected in battle and times of peace. "Lighten their burdens and release them from suffering and pain."Taps sounded as the new flags were raised to the top of the flagpole.
