Another step in Jim Thorpe's improvement program, the "Car Bath," opened at 12th and North Streets, opposite the Olympian Drive-In. Capable of handling four cars at once, the "bath" operates on the principle of high water pressure, coupled with special detergent. Utilized is heated soft water obtained from a newly-dug well. The user deposits 25 cents for a five-minute period, the meter is set, and the indicator goes to "wash." The vehicle is washed with a long, even wand. The "wash" setting continues until the car is clean, then switches to "rinse."
