Rob Kislow of Northampton wept when he was honored this past weekend for his service in Afghanistan.

"It's very important that everyone supports the troops," he said, regarding soldiers currently serving in the military but especially those in Afghanistan and Iraq.He said such support can occur with a letter or a small package."The morale is what's important," he said. "Keep doing it."Kislow, who lost a leg when he was shot during an ambush while serving in Afghanistan in 2005, got the award during the "Harley's Heroes Tour" held at Blocker Enterprises in Parryville.He was presented with a Harley Davidson flag which had been hanging at Blocker's and contained signatures and messages from employees and customers.Kislow was shot three times; once in the right arm, once in the right leg, and once execution style in the back of his head.Somehow the head shot didn't kill him. It penetrated his helmet, hit his head, and only scratched his skull.A friend of his died in the ambush. Kislow managed to turn around and kill the assailant.Dennis Blocker, owner of Blocker Enterprises, made the flag presentation with Geno Giunta, of the sales department."Veterans are a very special part of our lives," Blocker remarked.He said Harley Davidson donated the flag.The Harley's Heroes Tour was a two-day event which provided counseling to military veterans on benefits and support.The flag presentation was held in conjunction with a special bike blessing on Saturday.The blessing of the bikes was done by Rocky DeMelfi of the King's Riders Chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Club.Also participating was Rev. Larry Yeakel of Lehighton, who offered the invocation and benediction.Sharon Elaine of Northampton sang the national anthem.Randy Fritz, president of King's Riders, remarked that we should be thankful for our freedoms that veterans fought to preserve."We have a battle on our hands to keep those freedoms," he said.Among veterans present at the program was Marlin Kester, 87, of Bowmanstown, who is a veteran of World War II.
