Hamburg man facing charges

Brian Werley, 42, 111 State St., Hamburg, faces charges from an incident which took place on May 14 on the 300 block of W. Ridge St., in Lansford. Charges were filed by Officer Robert Shubeck.

Werley is charged with recklessly endangering another person, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct, and reckless driving. He was arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek and was jailed under $3,000 bail.According to an affidavit of probable cause, Shubeck and officer Jason Helmer were dispatched to the area for a report of a domestic disturbance. While en route they were advised that a female was on top of a vehicle, a maroon sedan with a roof rack.A vehicle matching the description was spotted and stopped by Helmer. The operator was identified as Werley, who told police he was involved in a dispute with his girlfriend, Sharon Card, at 315 W. Ridge St. He said Card was intoxicated and he was trying to leave when she climbed onto his car.Werley told police he had a loaded gun in the vehicle. Helmer checked the vehicle and saw a brown container in plain view on the front driver's side floor. Upon opening the container it was noted to be a device used to smoke marijuana and was filled with a leafy green matter that later tested to be marijuana.Shubeck asked Werley if he had driven the car while Card was on top and he said yes and that she wouldn't let him leave the house.Werley was arrested and police then went to 315 W. Ridge. There, they found Card covered in blood from her right shoulder to her stomach. She had a large cut on the back of her head. Shubeck called the ambulance. He spoke with a witness, David Szumigraj, who said he was coming home and saw Card on the car's roof. She was yelling and pleading, "Brian, please don't go," Szumigraj told Shubeck. He told police he saw Werley back the car up, with Card on top, and then drive down W. Ridge Street, about 10 car lengths, until Card fell off near Krajcirik's garage. Szumigraj said it appeared that Werley was driving too fast for Card to safely get off the roof.
