Dear Editor:

Recently, death claimed Robert Nenow, an iconic Carbon County figure revered by generations. Nenow, who operated Nenow's Dynasty Karate in Palmerton, was a gifted martial arts instructor and a valuable mentor to young people.

As a young man, I was privileged to train under Grandmaster Nenow. Aside from self-defense instruction, Nenow taught students lessons of life-long value. I remember topics about respect for others and self, perserverance, humility, courage, faith and patriotism.

We can best honor Grandmaster Nenow's memory by serving as mentors to young people needing positive direction.
