Dylan Krum, 15, needs more bowlers on his team. Dylan is the Lehighton boy who was recently stricken with pediatric follicular lymphoma, a rare type of cancer in children.

Since then he has been having a difficult time with the aggressive chemotherapy treatment he has been undergoing."Since the cancer is so aggressive, they have to use aggressive treatment," said Bev Fritzinger, a family friend, who has been following Dylan's treatment through his mother and father, Lora (Long) and Dave Krum.His supporters includes his family, friends, classmates at Lehighton High School, bowling team, band friends and church family. Dylan has been a patient at Lehigh Valley Hospital for the past 60 days.To help the family with ongoing medical expenses, Bev and Dennis Fritzinger, owners of Fritz's Lanes and Pro Shop bowling lanes, 100 S. Second St., Lehighton, are hosting a benefit bowling day at the bowling lanes. They have donated the use of the bowling lanes from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 17. All proceeds from the day will go to Dylan and his family to help with ongoing medical expenses associated with his illness.During the event, anyone wishing to help Dylan can donate $5 and receive a game of bowling, rental shoes, a hot dog and a soda. Appearing during the event will be Buster the Clown. There also will be a Chinese auction, bake sale and a Dunk Mr. 300 event. The hot dogs and soda were donated for the event. "The junior bowlers asked if we could help raise funds for Dylan and what evolved is this full out day long event."Fritzinger said that Dylan hasn't responded well to the chemotherapy and has developed a lung infection and has been put on kidney dialysis. She said his condition has stabilized somewhat."We've heard from relatives that his mother stays by his side all day and holds his hand," said Fritzinger. His mother is a teacher at Northern Lehigh School District.In addition to bowling, Dylan has also been involved with Zion Opera Workshop and plays the trumpet in the Lehighton Band."This is an event with kids reaching out to a friend," she said. "Everyone is welcome to come out for Dylan."Assisting Fritzinger at the event will be Marc Castro, Shauna and Vicki Brown, Samantha, Craig and Dawn Bowman.We've received a donation from Mrs. T's Pierogies and the Woman's Bowling League of Allentown."On some days Dylan has a good day," said Fritzinger. "Other days he has set backs. We're hoping to have everyone sign a card at the event so that Dylan has something to look at."A blood drive to replace some of the blood that Dylan has used has also been organized from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 24, by Dylan's aunt, Linda Muffley through the Miller-Keystone Blood Center, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 222 Church St., Lehighton (Franklin Township). Blood donors will have the chance to win a Family Fun pack to Camelbeach Mountain water-park, Tannersville."It is unbelievable just how much blood has been used to help Dylan with his cancer treatment," said Muffley. "That is why I organized this blood drive, because I think about all the other people with cancer who also need blood products like Dylan. Seeing Dylan like this has been a real eye opener for me."
