The Walker Township Supervisors received four bids for the 2010 road program concerning Seal Coat (tar and chip) on Valley Road (from Wildcat to the township line).
Pennsy Supply came in at a unit price of $1.20 per square yard with an estimated total of $67,938. Martin Paving was at a unit price of $1.25 per square yard with an estimated total of $69,125. Asphalt Paving Systems Inc. was at a unit price of $1.13 per square yard with an estimated price totaling $66,292.58 and AMS came in at a unit price of $.98 per square yard with an estimate totaling $55,193.60.
AMS was approved as the winning bid.
In other business, FEMA sent updated flood maps which will be reviewed.
House Bill 2431 was discussed and concerns were raised over this particular piece of legislation that deals with centralized government. This proposal deals with counties taking over all municipal operations. Townships, cities and boroughs would be out and counties would be in control.
David Horst, project engineer, Alfred Benesch and Company, Pottsville, provided the supervisors with updates and detailed recommendations for the Catawissa Road Bridge over Cold Run Project.
Walker and West Penn townships are forming a Sewer Committee with members representing both areas. The supervisors are looking for residents who live in the village of Reynolds who might be interested in representing Walker Township on the committee. Anyone ineterested should contact the township for information.
The date of the August meeting has yet to be determined. It will be advertised when a final date is chosen.
