Tamaqua facing DUI, other counts

A Tamaqua man has been cited for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and other charges after Tamaqua police observed him speeding at the eastern end of town.

Officers were on patrol at 2:36 a.m. on June 26 when they observed a red 1995 Chevrolet Beretta traveling east at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped in the area of the Number 11 Hill and the driver identified as Michael T.K. Boyer, 20, of 211 W. Broad St. Boyer fumbled through the glovebox but was unable to produce a registration or insurance card. Officers noted an odor of alcohol coming from Boyer and asked him to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed. A records check indicated Boyer's registration had been suspended due to insurance cancellation.Boyer was taken into custody and transported to the Pottsville Hospital for a blood test, which indicated a .17BAC, more than double the legal limit. In addition to charges of DUI, Boyer was cited for driving at an unsafe speed, driving without insurance, underage drinking and careless driving.
