As his track record indicates, Billy Cyr's foray into business ventures often prove to be a monumental success.

It turns out the chief executive officer for Sunny Delight Beverages, Inc., and Palmerton native can add another notch in his belt.

That's because Cyr received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2010 Award in the consumer products category in South Central Ohio and Kentucky.

The world's most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs, the award recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

The award makes a difference through the unique way it encourages entrepreneurial activity among those with potential and recognizes the contribution of people who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement, according to Ernst & Young, LLP.

As the first and only truly global award of its kind, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year celebrates those who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses.

Cyr, who recently received the award at a gala at the Duke Energy Center, was selected by an independent panel of judges of local business owners and previous award recipients.

As a regional award winner, Cyr is now eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2010 national awards, which will be announced at an event in Palm Springs, CA, in November.

"This award is quite an honor, particularly because of what it says about our company and its people," Cyr said. "The essence of an entrepreneur is risk taking and that is exactly what each of our employees did when they left the friendly confines of a large company to join a much smaller and inherently riskier venture. We proudly describe our company as "a highly motivated band of big company refugees."

Cyr led the team that established the Sunny Delight Beverages Co. in 2004. Today, SDBC is the second largest, independent and privately held beverage company in North America. The company has quintupled its earnings over the past five years and has made two significant acquisitions.

One of the fastest growing leading producers of juice-based drinks in North America and Western Europe, Sunny Delight Beverages Co. acquired the Fruit2O and Veryfine businesses from Kraft Foods in 2007 and Bossa Nova, a leading brand of acai juice and a pioneer in the superfruit beverage segment, in 2009.

Sunny Delight Beverages Co., is dedicated to helping moms improve the vitality of their families by creating and marketing more wholesome beverages, with brands that include Sunny D citrus punch, Fruit Simple fruit smoothies, Fruit 2O flavored waters, Bossa Nova superfruit beverages, Veryfine 100 percent juices and juice drinks and Elations dietary supplement for joint health.
