Jon W. Evans is the recipient of the Western Pocono Lions Club's "Lion of the Year" Award.

Only a Lion for two years, Lion Evans "has been regular in attendance, participated in all fund-raisers, has attended board meetings when not required to, and is very outgoing," says his Lions Club membership sponsor. In addition, his fellow Lions find him very outgoing, willing to help wherever he can and a good communicator.

Evans says he became a Lion because, "I like to help people."

His favorite activity in Lionism so far is helping at the Breakfast with Santa that the Western Pocono Lioness hosts and the Lions help with the food preparation in the kitchen.

As Lions Club President Helen Koshensky presented the award, before identifying the recipient, she said, "I am honored and privileged to present the 'Lion of the Year' award to a man who has demonstrated steadfastness, dedication, motivation, leadership empathy and integrity, and has risen to take up the challenge of accepting one of the most important positions a Lions Club member can assume, that of secretary."

Lion Jon will replace Lion Charles Rush who has served the Western Pocono Lions Club as club secretary for 20 years and is now moving onto other responsibilities.

Of Lion Evans, Lions Club President Koshensky continued, "This gentle man demonstrates all the qualities of what a true 'Lion' represents," before calling the honoree forward to receive his plaque of recognition and honor.
