A Pottsville man accused of a string of burglaries in Tamaqua elected to waive his right to a preliminary hearing, on all the local charges filed against him, when he appeared before District Judge Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua, on Tuesday.
Charles Emerson Lash, 25, of 1001 W. Market St., is accused of burglarizing (twice each) the Citizen's Fire Company, the Tiki Bar and the Italian Club during a time spanning from 2007-2008.
Lash allegedly took a total of $510 from the Italian Club; $1,700 in cash from the Tiki Bar; and $9,985. 23 from the Citizen's Fire Company. He also allegedly caused $4,228.28 in damage to the Tiki Bar and $920 in damage to the fire company. The charges were filed by Cpl. Henry Woods and include six felony counts each of burglary and criminal trespass; two felony and four misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking; two felony and two misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief.
Lash was returned to the county prison, Pottsville, to await trial. Bail remained at $100,000 straight cash bond on each of the six incidents.
Other cases scheduled to be heard by Bayer this week, with the defendants waiving their rights to preliminary hearings included:
Drew Daniel Labar, 21, of South Greenwood Street, Tamaqua, was charged with defiant trespass, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property by Tamaua Patrolman Karl Harig. The charges stem from a May 27 incident.
David Frederick, 58, of 51 Chain Circle, New Ringgold, faces trial on a charge of indecent assault. The charge was filed by West Penn Township Patrolman Dale Osenbach, stemming from a June 8 incident.
Erik Lewis Suppers, 27, of 335 Chambers St., Apollo, Armstrong County, was charged by Trooper Matthew Barret following a Feb. 26 incident. Suppers was charged with three counts of harassment.
Craig Kovac, 36, of 116 W. Blaine St., McAdoo, was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, driving with a suspended/revoked license and disorderly conduct by Kline Township Officer Marybeth Elias. The charges stem from a May 23 incident.
