A postsecondary budget for the 2010-11 school year for Schuylkill Technology Centers for $1,342,700 was approved by the Schuykill Intermediate Unit 29 School Board at a meeing held Tuesday evening at the Maple Avenue Campus of the Special Educaiton Building in Norwegian Township.

Daily cafeteria breakfast and lunch rates for the next school year was approved with no changes in the cost structure. Regular student breakfast stay at $1, reduced student breakfast, 30 cents, adult breakfast, $2; regular student lunch, $2.25 and reduced lunch 40 cents; adult lunch $4 and half pint milk cartons 50 cents.The board gave approval to pay all bills and make the necessary budget transfers, as is done annually, so that the accounts of all programs may be closed out properly at the end of the fiscal year. Enterprise Fund Programs costs were $842,585; Special Education Programs, $28,322,658.67; and Vocational Education, $7,908,493.A grant of $11,100 was accepted from the Pennsylvania Department of Eduication for Intermediate Unit Building Capacity to assist districts with school improvement planning. A fee of $110 for member school districts and $150 for non-member schools was set for video-conferencing field trips for the 2010-11 school year.The board is seeking to hire a secretary in the Early Intervention Department to replace Margaret Bettinger who is retiring. It announced the resignations of Abagail Neverosky as special education teacher Junior/Senior High School and Veronica Lepley, speech and language clinician at at the Elementary School in Williams Valley School District and Ida Reno as a part-time teacher aide in the Schuylkill Elementary School and Charles Shappell, welding instructor at the South VoTech Campus.Personnel mattersJames Monaghan and James Haffey were hired as administrators/co-principals at the Maple Avenue Campus effective July 1; Michelle Daynorowicz as a full-time program coordinator for the 21st Century Community Learning Center; Betty Rada as secretary to the superintendent of Special Education and Vocational Education; Christine Reedy as a development teacher to provide preschool screenings/evaluatioin/therapy; Amelia Crespo as teacher aide and Heather Wojciechowski as a therapist in the Preschool Summer Program.Jane Jones was hired as a CNA instructor for 1,256 hours at $25 per hour. Kurt Lynch and Cynthia Stasulli hired as administrator for the Frame Your Future Program at $25 per hour for maximum of 15 hours. All costs to be paid by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Labor Management Council. Hired as instructor for the Frame program were Tracy Subick, Tim McGinley, and Phillip Cimino at $25 per hour, also to be paid by the PLM council.Yvonne Cunningham was hired as cafeteria head cook for an additional 15 hours for cafeteria joint purchasing and related activites during the summer and Myrna Early, Port Carbon, and Joseph Lapoint, Pottsville, as substitute cafeteria workers.Other businessAn auditing contract was renewed with Jones and Company, Pottsville, for the school year which concluded and the school years of 2010-11 and 2011-12 years. The costs for auditing the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 for the three school years are, $10,200, $10,500 and $10,900; Schuylkill Technology Centers, $8,600, $8,850 and $9,100 and Schuylkill County Health and Welfare Trust, $1,020, $2,100 and $2,200.Contracts were approved for instructors for the Continuing Professional Education Courses, for Differentiating Instruction with Technology online, Evely Wassel, $750 fee; Multicultural and Socioeconomic Educaiton online, Keith Yarger, $2,250 fee; and Schuylkill County History Introduction, Deborah Reda and Mark Major, $75 fee.Contracts with instructors for the 2010 Robotics Camp are Beth Williams, Heather Dillman and Heather Fenstermacher, each $1,000 fee. A contract was entered with Dr. Michelle Tellep for $500 to conduct a half-day mentor workshop on Aug. 19.A contract was entered with Schuylkill Medical Center, Pottsville, to conduct physical exams for school bus drivers at $75 per exam and radom drug and alcohol tests at $60 per test.Renewal agreements approved were, one with Leader Services , Hazleton, a division of LDP. Inc., for the IEP Writer Software License at $2,949; with workers compensation coverage with Pennsylvania Insurance Consortium for schools for $26,514; student accident insurance plan with ACE-American Insurance Company administered by Mid-Penn Insurance of Sunbury at $22 for school time coverage and $88 for 24 hour coverage; software service with Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit for fund accounting $1,550, payroll, $1,550 and personnel, $1,325.Other business included accepting the proposal from Safe Havens International Inc. to perform emergency management and workshop consultant services for $34,860; a contract with Schuylkill County Childlren and Youth Agency to provide Day Treatment services for $400,000, maximum cost; contract with Charles Sacavage, Hegins, to provide video-conferencing presentations at $100 per participating site; approved a two year contract with Verizon Wireless to supply a wireless card and coverage at a cost of $40 per month plus taxes and fees at $2,949. This cost will be covered by Technology Integration Mentor grant funding.The board acknowledged receipt of a grant of $5,437 from Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for "Solar Energy and Residential Electricity Project." A letter of agreement was entered with the State Correctional Institution at Mahanoy Township for the North Campus of the IU Technical Center located near Frackville to be designated as an alternative site to operate on a temporary basis in the event of an emergency such as fire, flood or other impact at the state prison.The board approved the textbook, equipment and supply for the adult program for the coming school year.
