It was a night that Palmerton basketball had to live with for a year.

Last January, Palisades visited the PHS gym with a 85-game losing streak. The Pirates, two games short of a state record 87 losses, picked up a 45-35 win over the Bombers.On Tuesday night, the two teams squared off againand this time, it was the Bombers who were looking for their first Colonial League win of the season and third overall.By outscoring the Pirates (3-13, 2-10) 36-13 in the middle quarters, the Blue Bombers (3-13, 1-9) came away with a 51-46 triumph holding off a surge by the visitors in the final eight minutes."I thought we came out and played very emotional the whole game," said Palmerton head coach Mike Snyder. "That little run at the end of the first half was outstanding."We kind of showed our youth in the fourth quarter when we were not being the aggressive team. We were letting them dictate the game both offensively and defensively, but we held on down the stretch and made some foul shots."After a sluggish first quarter that saw the Pirates jump out to a 9-4 lead, things started to change a little bit when the Bombers went on a 10-0 run to start the second quarter. Combine a good offensive showing with some tough defense that allowed the Pirates just six points (a three-pointer by Anthony Mayette and three free throws) the rest of the half and the Bombers had a 23-15 lead at intermission.Derek Furry and Ben Andrews had five points apiece, Christian Marcin hit a pair of jumpers and Brett Snyder nailed a three-pointer to spark the Bombers in the second quarter. Tyler Svetik added a driving layup just before the buzzer to close out a seven-point run that helped them open up an eight-point lead."Brett (Snyder), Ben (Andrews and Tyler (Svetik) have good basketball IQ and we had some good substitutions in that second quarter," added Snyder. " We went offense-defense because Marcin picked up fouls, (Tyler) Kravetz picked up fouls and (Zach) Freed picked up a foul. Derek Haas came off the bench for a short period. they did the job."The momentum carried over into the third quarter with the Bombers building up a 40-22 lead entering the final eight minutes.Palmerton used a special defense against the Pirates."We just played three guys (Will Hess, Josh Parris and Anthony Mayette)," said Snyder. "We faceguarded them and the other two guys were in the paint giving help. That was the game plan. When one of those kids went out, we went triangle-and-two and if two of them were out, we were going to go box-in-one. We wanted to make those other kids beat us."The Bombers got a pair of baskets by Marcin and free throws from Snyder, Furry and Andrews (seven rebounds, five assists) down the stretch to help the Pirates' run sputter.Furry finished with 12 and Snyder 10 to lead the Bombers in scoring. Kravetz had 10 rebounds."Furry hustles his butt off every night and gives it his all," added Snyder.
