When the two ward schools in Lehighton were closed, two heavily used basketball courts were lost. One basketball court might be regained, and it might even be an indoor facility, according to Darryl Arner, president of Lehighton Borough Council. The borough council has bid $75,000 for the former Lehighton Junior High School building, a three-story block structure which has a gymnasium, an auditorium, and a lot of potential office space. There were no other bids received. (Note: The school board rejected the bid, but eventually gave the building to the borough).
