10 first-time offenders enter Carbon probation program

Ten first time offenders in the criminal justice system were recently placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record is wiped clean. However, if a person fails to complete the program or is revoked, the Commonwealth reserves the right to prosecute them on all charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Matthew F. Dennis, 24, of Jim Thorpe, was placed on a charge of driving under the influence (DUI). He was arrested on Aug. 27, 2009, along North St., in Jim Thorpe. Given a test, the result was .14BAC.He was ordered to pay $400, get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, license suspended for 30 days and must render 14 hours of community service.Taylor Wesley Schmitt, 20, of Nesquehoning, was placed on a charge of resisting arrest. He was arrested by Lansford police on Nov. 13, 2009.He was ordered to pay $350, get a D&A evaluation and render 25 hours of community service.Jesse G. Steigerwalt, 21, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of possession of a controlled substance (marijuana). He was arrested on May 30, 2009, in the 300 block of Iron St., Lehighton.He was ordered to pay $350, get a D&A evaluation and render 15 hours of community service.Sara Elizabeth Terry, 23, of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of resisting arrest. She was arrested on Nov. 7, 2009, by Lehighton police along Bridge St.She was ordered to pay $350, get a D&A evaluation, get her General Education Diploma (GED), and render 15 hours of community service.Kerry John Beidleman, 45, of Palmerton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Sept. 19, 2009, along Fireline Road by state police. Given a test, the result was .12BAC.He was ordered to pay $500, get a D&A evaluation and license suspended for 30 days.Kevin S. Blacketter, 23, of Lehighton, was placed for six months on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Aug. 1, 2009, along SR248 in Franklin Township. Given a test, the result was .16BAC.He was ordered to pay $450, get a D&A evaluation and render 16 hours of community service.Jesus Manuel Maldonado, 24, of Reading, was placed on a charge of theft. He was arrested on May 18, 2009, by Palmerton police for taking the credit card of Christy Lynn Stay.He was ordered to pay $350, restitution of $115 and render 15 hours of community service.Jose David Maldonado, 52, of Palmerton, was placed on a theft charge and the case is related to the one involving Jesus Maldonado and the same victim.He was ordered to pay $350 and make restitution of $150.Ryan Patrick McGarry, 22, of Lehighton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Oct. 3, 2009, along Summit Mountain Rd., in Towamensing Township, by state police. Given a test, the result was .10BAC.He was ordered to pay $400, get a D&A evaluation and license suspended for 60 days.Amanda Danielle Parisi, 22, of Lehighton, was placed for six months on a charge of DUI. She was arrested on Aug. 8, 2009, along Bridge St., Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .08BAC.She was ordered to pay $400, get a D&A evaluation and license suspended for 30 days.All defendants must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee.
