Franklin Township supervisors on Tuesday night adopted a resolution that will provide an escalator clause for use with bituminous material and petroleum products purchase contracts for the upcoming year.
Supervisors plan to advertise for bids for 10,000 gallons of low sulfur diesel fuel and 6,000 gallons of heating oil. Bids will be opened at the February 16 meeting.
The board also made a motion to enroll with Dominion Energy Solutions as the township's provider for electricity and also approved Jukebox Cruisers Car Club to hold car shows at the Phifer Ice Dam Park on various Friday nights throughout the spring and summer.
The biggest issue discussed was the Community Block Grant public hearing to be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16, when Judy Borger, director of the Carbon County Planning Commission, will conduct a public hearing on the township's 2010 projects. The projects planned are: dredging one pond at the Phifer Ice Dam Park, resurfacing Market Street and a portion of Cedar Street, plus replacement of the upper portion (phase two) of the Court Street retaining wall.
The purpose of the hearing is to receive input and comments from Franklin Township residents.
Franklin Township is an entitlement community. The township will receive approximately $99,418 to spend for 2010. Carbon County will receive 18 percent or $17,895 for administering the grant program for the township, leaving the township a balance of $81,523 for the project.
To receive the funding 51 percent of the township must be low to moderate income. The project must address a slum or blighted area and meet a particular urgent community development need.
Sandra Gaumer, secretary, noted that there will be a change in garbage collection due to Presidents Day. Those residents who have their trash picked up on Monday, will have garbage picked up instead on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
