PV Senior Center

New members are always welcome to join the Panther Valley Senior Center.

The center is located at the Nesquehoning School Apts. on East Catawissa Street. The manager is Fran Craigie.

On Jan. 11 there will be horse racing at 11 a.m.; Jan. 12 is line dancing in the morning; Jan. 13 is birthday bingo at 11 a.m.; Jan. 14 blood pressure screenings; Jan. 15 darts at 11 a.m.

On Jan. 18 there will be Scattergories at 11 a.m.; Jan. 19 line dancing; Jan. 20 Wii bowling; Jan. 21 shooting pool; Jan. 22 going to the casino at 9:30 a.m. The center will be closed.

On Jan. 25 bean bags; Jan. 26 line dancing; Jan. 27 lottery bingo at 11 a.m.Jan. 28 Deal or No Deal at 11 a.m. Jan. 29 shopping at 9:30 .m. The center will be closed.

Nesquehoning

Free supper

The next free community supper will be held at the Meed's Methodist Church on Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary meeting

The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Post Home on East Center Street. President Cathy Sommers will preside at the meeting.

Summit Hill

St. Paul Lutheran

The congregation of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, will hold its worship service on Sunday, Jan. 10, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday school will precede the service at 9 o'clock.

On Tuesday, Jan. 12, the church council will meet at 7 p.m. in the church.

Church representatives are reminded all reports for the annual Congregational Annual Report are due by Feb. 7.

Council meetings

The Summit Hill Borough Council will hold its monthly meetings on the second Tuesdays of each month in 2010. The dates are Feb. 9, Mar. 9, Apr. 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14.

The meetings will be held at 7 p.m. in the borough hall, 40 W. Amidon St.

Water authority

The Summit Hill Water Authority will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 19 (third Tuesday), at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. John Michalik, president, will be in charge.

Receives sacrament

Twenty youths recently received the Sacrament of First Penance during a service held at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford. They include Erica Baba, Carly Bachert, Rachel Chuma, Anthony Costello, Bianca Dalessio, Edward Dunn, Brianna Earley, Samantha Earley, Seth Feisel, Adam Gilbert, Sarah Hood, Jakub Kantyka, Emilee Kwaak, Francesca LoDuca, Dennis Rosohac, Alexa Sanderfer, Jordan Serina, Sophia Tucillo, Maxwell Vermillion and Olivia Weaver.
