There's a new garbage pickup day in Lehighton during 2010.

The collection date is Friday.

Lehighton Chief of Police Matthew Bender said apparently some residents don't know about the new day and put their trash out Monday night for Tuesday – which was the collection day for the past several years.

As a result, some garbage was blown around. Some containers will remain at curbside for most of the week, which is a violation of a borough ordinance.

According to the police department, the borough has an ordinance which states trash containers are not allowed to be placed on the curb earlier than 6 a.m. on the day prior to pickup.

The containers must be brought in by 9 a.m. following the day of trash collection.

Bender said recycling pickup is not changed, that it will be every other Friday.
