The Borough of Tamaqua Street Department will be collecting Christmas trees throughout the month of January. Residents should place their trees at the curb for pickup on their garbage collection day.
The street department will check each street on garbage days and collect trees as time and weather permits.
The trees must be free of tinsel and other decorations. No trees will be collected after Jan. 31.
Residents may also drop off their trees behind the borough garage at 421 rear East Broad Street.
Snow removal will be performed on various streets in the borough during the winter season.
Streets will be posted the day before snow removal is scheduled.
Snow removal may begin anytime after 12:01 a.m. on the posted day and start times will vary depending on work schedules and weather conditions.
Residents are reminded that they must move their vehicles for snow removal. Vehicles that remain on the posted streets will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.
Tamaqua property owners must maintain a three-foot-wide path on their sidewalks that is clear of all snow and ice.
Snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours after a snowstorm ends.
Residents are also reminded not to throw snow, ice or other materials onto the streets. Vehicle traffic compacts snow into ice and causes a traffic hazard.
Snow should not be piled at intersections, near fire hydrants or on top of storm drains.
Individuals plowing snow on the streets must remove any snow piles that they create.
Residents may be fined for throwing or piling snow onto the streets or for failure to clear their sidewalks.
