Two persons were killed a woman and a male juvenile and three others, including an infant female, were seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County.

State police at Fern Ridge said the crash occurred about 4 p.m. on Tuesday in the eastbound lanes.

Troopers said a GMC envoy was eastbound near mile marker 279.6 when the driver lost control due to driving at an unsafe speed for existing conditions. The road conditions were slush and ice-covered at the time in both travel lanes, troopers said.

The GMC went onto the south berm and rolled over striking a tree. The vehicle came to rest at its impact point with the tree. The right rear passenger, an adult female, was ejected from the vehicle. She and a male juvenile seated in the right front passenger seat, were killed. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, an adult male, was taken to the Geisinger Medical Center Wyoming, in Plains Township, Luzerne County. He is listed in critical condition. An infant female and another juvenile male passenger were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. No condition report was available on them.

The names of the victims were not released by troopers, but all were from East Stroudsburg.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Lake Harmony and Penn Forest fire companies and ambulance personnel from Lake Harmony and White Haven. The Carbon County Coroner's office also assisted at the scene.
