Several members of the New England Fire Company questioned why fuel bills from Fegley Oil for their vehicles had not been paid by Walker Township.

"Last year, we ran into the same problem with some of our fuel bills not getting paid at Fegley's. We just got three more bills that weren't paid from September, October, and November," said fire company member Bob Frantz. "This keeps happening and it reflects against us and our credit," he added.According to township secretary/treasurer Suzanne Borzak, the township has not received any of the bills. "They're supposed to send them to us and they haven't," she said. "I have not received a bill for us or for you in some time."This conversation led to a lengthy discussion of what money the fire company is getting from the township and how it can be spent.Fire company members questioned why the dedicated millage to the fire company was dropped. According to supervisor Craig Wagner, it was because the millage in the township has increased. One mill now brings in about $23,000, up from $20,000. "That mill is worth more.The millage got cut, but monetarily, you didn't lose anything," said Wagner. The additional money will now be going into the general fund. According to township solicitor Michael Greek, the township can still spend that money on the fire department, they just have more flexibility if it is not dedicated to the fire department. Dedicated millage can only be spent on certain items.Several residents questioned a recent announcement that fiber optic cable will be laid in the township. Supervisors will contact a representative from the company to address concerns. The supervisors and the planning and zoning committee will also host a joint public meeting on March 11, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., to discuss the zoning changes under the new Eastern Schuylkill joint zoning plan. Bob Ludgate, who was instrumental in ESP from the beginning, will be present to answer questions.
