Tom J. Gerhard, a resident of Packer Township, will seek his first term to the office of Carbon County Commissioner on the Republican ticket.
Born and raised in Packer Township, Weatherly, Gerhard is the son of Tom C., who served for 12 years as Carbon County Commissioner before retiring in 2003 and Elizabeth (Kovalick) Gerhard, Weatherly. He is a graduate of Weatherly Area High School in 1974.
Gerhard was a self-employed roofing contractor for Tom Gerhard & Sons Roofing for 32 years, and is currently employed by Superior Plus Energy Services, White Haven. Gerhard is also employed part-time by Motor Transportation Company, Hazleton as a coach driver for nearly 10 years. In his eleventh year as Packer Township Supervisor, Gerhard currently holds the position of chairman.
Appointed by the Bishop of the Allentown Diocese, Gerhard is a member of the Advisory Board at Marian Catholic High School, and holds the position of President for the Men of Marian, the main booster organization for the school. He is a fourth degree Knight of Columbus Council 12105 St. Nicholas Weatherly, and served on the finance board at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, formerly St. Nicholas Parish.
Gerhard is married for 31 years to the former Sue Ann Raynock, Director of Development & Alumni Affairs at Marian High School, daughter of the late Frank J. & Sophia Raynock. They are the parents of two daughters, Jennifer Ann, Drums, a Music teacher in the Hazleton Area School District and Kathleen Marie, Mehoopany, Director of Activities at Golden Living Center Tunkhannock. They are members of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Weatherly, where he serves as lector.
Gerhard will be running with current Commissioner Wayne Nothstein, who is seeking his fourth term.
