SHCIO to meet

The Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 3, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall.

Debra Ranck, president, will be in charge of the session.

New Year's masses

The Rev. James Burdess, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, has announced the schedule of masses for the New Year's holiday as follows:

Masses will be celebrated on New Year's Eve, Friday, at 6:30 p.m., and on New Year's Day, Saturday, at 9 a.m.

There will be no Mass on Saturday evening. Sunday's schedule includes masses at 9 and 11 a.m.

Seeking members

The Summit Hill Heritage Center, 1 W. Hazard St., is seeking new members and volunteers.

The center houses the Summit Hill Food Pantry and promotes entertainment, educational, cultural and social activities for the entire family.

Persons interested in joining the center can contact one of the following directors: Debra Ranck, David Wargo, Elnora Clay, Rose Marie Armon or Lyle Mantz.

Infant baptized

Elenore Catherine Colancecco, infant daughter of Carino and Elise (Alexander) Colancecco of Summit Hill, was baptized into St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill.

The Rev. James Burdess, pastor, officiated at the service on Dec. 12.

Lansford

Council committees

The Lansford Borough Council's Parks and Recreation Committee will meet on Thursday, Dec. 30, at 6:30 p.m.

The session will be followed at 7:15 p.m., by a meeting of the council's Community Development, Planning, Zoning, & Ordinance Committee.

Parish ministry

A new endeavor of parish ministry, HOPE (Helping Older Parishioners Earnestly), is being organized at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford. Volunteers are needed to work in pairs to assist parishioners in need.

Scholarships

The St. Mary Magdalene Society Junior Branch No. 46 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association is once again sponsoring its scholarship program for 2011.

They are available in three categories: elementary grades 1-4, elementary grades 5-8, and high school.

Applications are available to members of the branch and must be postmarked before March 1.
